Thank you all for gathering here today.
I have something of the upmost importance to tell you: it’s sunny outside here in Seattle.
Not just regular sunny. Gloriously sunny. We’re talkin’ 72°, babes. A wonderful — nay — perfect way to ring in my favorite month of the year.
I’m ignoring the little voice in my head whispering, “this will all go away tomorrow.” And how am I doing that? By channeling this character from the 2003 masterpiece Under the Tuscan Sun.
If you’re unfamiliar with the film, it doesn’t really matter. All you need to know is that Diane Lane goes to Italy, gets divorced, buys bonkers house, blah blah blah self discovery blah … and meets this woman:
Her name is Katherine and she’s Taurus personified: beautiful clothes, ice cream at 2pm, and a lavishness to the way she relishes all earthly pleasures. I mean I wish I enjoyed literally anything as much as she enjoys this tiny duck.
She’s not immune to sadness, she’s still a human being. But when the blues hit, she has too much wine and slowly walks through the town fountain.
And I’ve decided that she is the vibe. At least for this one, brilliantly sunny day.
I don’t have the wardrobe, haircut, or glamorous, yet totally unidentifiable accent.
But the vibe — eating slowly and sumptuously, giving ridiculous advice, and referring to Federico Fellini as “FeFe”— that, I can do.
Let’s go take a walk through the town fountain, shall we?
Wishing you all the sunshine (both mentally and physically),
P.S. Some things I’ve been loving:
• The Breakthrough Course on the CHANI app, particularly the morning and evening meditations. They’re only ten minutes long, so I like to go for a lil walk to listen!
• Wild Swans by Jung Chang. The author vividly describes the lives of the women in her family while also covering a turning point in Chinese history. Remarkable.
• Amy Poehler’s podcast is oh so delightful. She’s genuinely happy to talk to people and it’s infectious.
• Water. Holy shit, have you guys tried this stuff? I cannot stop drinking it. Like I could literally bathe in it, I’m obsessed. No seriously, the days I drink a ton of water my brain is noticeably better at brain stuff.
If you feel comfortable, can you tell me something good in the comments? 😘
I am incredibly excited for you that it is a beautiful day in Seattle!!!!!!! Yahooo for the sun!
Happy to hear all of this, really want to see that movie now. But a good thing that I can think of right now is Stonesthrow RPG
